- 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp butter or olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup tomato paste
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 6 brioche or hamburger buns
Instructions
- Heat butter or oil in a large skillet over medium-low heat. Add sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and jammy.
- Increase heat to medium-high and add ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned and crumbled, about 7-10 minutes.
- Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add tomato paste to the mixture and cook for 2 minutes, stirring constantly to deepen the color.
- Stir in ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, and Dijon mustard. Reduce heat to low.
- Simmer for 10-15 minutes until the sauce has thickened and coated the beef evenly.
- Season with salt and pepper. Toast buns in butter and spoon the beef mixture generously onto each bun.
