Description
A warm, festive apple crumble featuring a blend of tart and sweet apples topped with a cinnamon-ginger oat crumble. Perfect for holiday dinners and winter treats.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 cups apples (mixed Granny Smith and Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup brown sugar (for topping)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375F (190C) and lightly grease a 9×9 inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, 1/2 cup brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg until evenly coated.
- Transfer the apple mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread them into an even layer.
- In a separate bowl, stir together the rolled oats, flour, 3/4 cup brown sugar, and salt.
- Add the cold, cubed butter to the oat mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter in until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with some pea-sized lumps.
- Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apples, leaving the top loose and not pressing it down.
- Bake for 35 to 45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the fruit juices are bubbling around the edges.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.
