Description

A warm, festive apple crumble featuring a blend of tart and sweet apples topped with a cinnamon-ginger oat crumble. Perfect for holiday dinners and winter treats.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups apples (mixed Granny Smith and Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar (for topping)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375F (190C) and lightly grease a 9×9 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, 1/2 cup brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg until evenly coated.
  3. Transfer the apple mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread them into an even layer.
  4. In a separate bowl, stir together the rolled oats, flour, 3/4 cup brown sugar, and salt.
  5. Add the cold, cubed butter to the oat mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter in until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with some pea-sized lumps.
  6. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apples, leaving the top loose and not pressing it down.
  7. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the fruit juices are bubbling around the edges.
  8. Remove from the oven and let cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.
