Description
A lighter, healthier version of traditional Swedish meatballs made with lean ground turkey and simmered in a rich, spiced cream gravy.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 tsp ground allspice
- 3 tbsp butter
- 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1.5 cups beef broth
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/8 tsp ground allspice (for sauce)
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine ground turkey, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, salt, pepper, and 1/4 tsp allspice. Mix gently until combined.
- Roll the mixture into 1-inch balls.
- Heat 1 tbsp butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown meatballs in batches until golden on all sides, about 7-10 minutes. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt the remaining 2 tbsp butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to create a roux.
- Slowly whisk in beef broth and heavy cream. Stir in the nutmeg and the remaining 1/8 tsp allspice.
- Simmer the sauce for a few minutes until thickened. Return meatballs to the skillet and simmer for another 5-8 minutes until cooked through.
