Description
A savory twist on French toast, this bake features a garlic-herb infused custard and Parmesan cheese, resulting in a golden-brown crust and a soft, creamy interior.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 cups crusty bread, cubed (sourdough or ciabatta)
- 4 large eggs
- 1.5 cups whole milk
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350F (175C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter or oil.
- Place the cubed bread into the greased baking dish and spread them evenly.
- Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, the sautéed garlic (including the butter), salt, and pepper until smooth.
- Stir the grated Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, and fresh thyme into the egg mixture.
- Pour the custard evenly over the bread cubes in the baking dish. Use a spatula to press the bread down so every piece is soaked.
- Let the dish sit for 10 minutes to allow the bread to absorb the liquid.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set.
- Remove from the oven and let the bake rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing into squares.
